Vallauris on the Côte d'Azur had its prime in the 1950s, attracting pottery powerhouses such as Pablo Picasso and Robert Picault. The commune is known as the city of clay – and with good reason, as it's been a hub for pottery since ancient times. Designs are recognised for their lead glazes and Mediterranean-inspired colour palettes, both of which are on full display in this vase from the 1950s.
