LA-based Cedric Mitchell discovered glassblowing in his native Oklahoma, honing his skills while studying business at Tulsa Community College. He quickly transitioned from student to apprentice and instructor at The Tulsa Glassblowing School and was subsequently mentored by Joe Cariati in Los Angeles. His artistic expression finds muse in modern design, graffiti, streetwear and Memphis Milano, these diverse aesthetics breathing life into a design portfolio spanning functional showpieces and decorative art, all conjured in vivid colours. In 2018, Mitchell entered the retail landscape, and rapidly stacked up accolades including a NIKE Air campaign – a poignant achievement due to the connection between glassblowing and the element of air. In 2022, he was the artist-in-residence at the Corning Museum of Glass and currently has work on view in Objects: USA 2024 at R & Company in New York.

Cedric Mitchell

To Cedric Mitchell, the art of blowing glass is a ‘mental game’ – one he compares to playing an instrument or playing chess at a rapid pace. His works vary from functional to sculptural, and include a series of 90s-inspired glassware informed by childhood nostalgia.
