This one-of-a-kind vase debuted at Peter Speliopoulos’ first solo show at Les Ateliers Courbet in New York. Titled Archaeos, the presentation was rooted in ideas of antiquity and excavation, with eroded surfaces, organic shapes and finger marks echoing the passage of time. Each piece is hand-thrown, slipped, glazed and signed by Peter, while each cracked layer is created via the application of sodium silicate that dries to a ruptured finish.

Meet the Maker:

Peter Speliopoulos Projects

Artist and polymath Peter Speliopoulos has manifested his lifelong passion for colour, texture and craft through many forms, from fashion and opera costume design to handcrafted homeware. He developed a love for material and construction while growing up in Springfield, Massachusetts, leading him to study at Parsons School of Design. Following this, he worked for esteemed fashion houses such as Donna Karan New York, where he was named creative director. Now, he applies these skills to leather and suede table accessories that are intended to heighten the senses and present the balance between the contemporary and the primitive, all while honouring the way of life of the past, present and future.
