Carl Auböck Rattan and Brass Letter Opener

US$510

Carl Auböck II used natural rattan as a contrasting material for his brass letter opener, designed in the 1950s. Later generations of the Auböck family still produce it today at the old Vienna atelier, casting the brass in Auböck’s original moulds and wrapping the rattan by hand. Please note, as this piece is made and finished by hand, slight markings and imperfections may occur. These only add to its unique character.

Meet the Maker:

Carl Auböck

After years at the forefront of the Bauhaus and Wiener Werkstätte traditions, Carl IV still works in the same atelier with the original brass moulds. He has modernised the hand-worked desk sets with input from designers like Michael Anastassiades, yet the handmade ethos remains.
