Antique and Vintage 1950s Jean Gerbino Ceramic Vase

US$1,615

French ceramicist Jean Gerbino was born into a Sicilian family of potters, and started learning the craft at just 10 years old. When he was old enough, he left for Vallauris where he was hired under Pierre Clément Massier. Gerbino was heavily influenced by neriage – a Japanese technique where coloured clay is stacked and sliced to reveal a pattern that can be used as an applied decoration. He devoted 15 years of his life to developing his own unique process, which is an award-winning combination of mosaic and neriage. Please note, this item is a truly original vintage piece with slight imperfections and distinctive characteristics that add to its charm and celebrate its unique history.
