David Valner has always felt a pull to glass; he grew up in a family of makers (his father is the esteemed Aleš Valner), before spending years experimenting with it alongside sculpture, fine art and interactive media – hence his ultra-modern aesthetic. His eponymous studio, which is backed by a collective of artists including his photographer-wife Tereza Valnerová, explores the endless stories that can be told through glass design. He looks primarily to nature for inspiration, and merges old techniques with new ideas to bring each innovative object to life.
