The cosy blankets ...

The cosy blankets of Otherways begin life in one of two locales: the Tibetan mountains, within striking distance of the Himalayas or in the Gobi Desert bordering Mongolia. In Tibet, at the breath-stealing altitude of 3,000 metres, you’ll find the local yaks, clothed in an unusual down coat known as khullu that they’ll readily shed come spring. The desert, on the other hand, is home to the rare Mongolian camel, whose desirable fleece, when sheared, contributes to its own conservation. These prized fibres are then woven, treated and hand-dyed by skilled artisans, under the stewardship of a young Nepalese woman. The result? Achingly contemporary blankets in weaves as bold as the colours they come in.
