Step into Fornasetti’s world of whimsy and you’ll find a multitude of expressive, eccentric boxes. Guided by everything from portraits to architecture, the designs are painted, silk-screened and lacquered by hand. The Città di Carte box depicts one of the house’s most representative subjects, where a landscape and playing cards merge into a dream-like scene. A metal outer structure gives way to a removable wooden drawer, resulting in a real storage win.

Meet the Maker:

Fornasetti

The Milanese design atelier renowned for the design and decoration of timeless pieces was founded in the 1940s by Piero Fornasetti, a multi-disciplinary artist who created over 13,000 objects in his lifetime. Barnaba, his son continues the design legacy which defies categorisation: Fornasetti is at once imaginative, ironic and sophisticated.

The result is a marriage of inspiration and functionality which is expressed in every day objects such as porcelain, accessories and furniture. Every piece is handmade in limited annual editions.
