Carl Auböck 'Optimist Pessimist' Brass Sculpture

£485

The accomplished brass-worker and Modernist trailblazer Carl Auböck II designed his head-scratching 'Optimist Pessimist' in the 1950s at the family workshop in Vienna. Cast in the original brass mould and hand-finished to a textural black patina, the sculpture is still produced today by Carl’s descendants. Please note, as this piece is made and finished by hand, slight markings and imperfections may occur. These only add to its unique character.

Meet the Maker:

Carl Auböck

After years at the forefront of the Bauhaus and Wiener Werkstätte traditions, Carl IV still works in the same atelier with the original brass moulds. He has modernised the hand-worked desk sets with input from designers like Michael Anastassiades, yet the handmade ethos remains.
