The Mono Aili Babouche slippers are handmade in Morocco from leftover fabrics founder Calla Haynes collected from couture houses across France and Italy. These textural combinations of silk, cotton, brocade and linen are woven by craftswomen in the Atlas mountains before the finishing touches are added in Marrakech. They are topped with detachable costume jewellery – in this case, vintage clip-on earrings – that have been scored at Parisian flea markets. Due to the unique sourcing process, every pair is different.

Meet the Maker:

Calla

Paris-based Calla Haynes started her collection in 2010 following stints alongside Olivier Theyskens at Rochas and Nina Ricci. After pausing production, she found herself with an enormous collection of textiles – many plucked from her archive, with others collected from esteemed houses and ateliers across France and Italy. Confronted with the amount of waste that already existed in the industry, she was adamant that her next step would be a meaningful one, so decided to repurpose them the Berber way.
