For some 30 years, the Himalayan Cashmere Co. has championed the supreme warmth and softness of pure cashmere for its handcrafted textiles. Its story turns the trope of ‘big city, big dreams’ topsy-turvy – in 1995, US designer Susan Snyder left the blazing lights of New York City behind for the eclectic capital of Nepal. In Kathmandu, at the foothills of the world’s most formidable mountain range, she gradually built a team of more than 100 local artisans. All blankets and accessories are created responsibly: it’s a member of the Sustainable Fibre Alliance, the yarn comes from free-roaming goats, and the colours are the result of the animals’ natural coat variations and earth-friendly plant dye.
