F&M Ballarin’s Filigrana collection takes its name from the technique used – one that’s been circulating around workshops in Murano for approximately 500 years. These tumblers see different coloured glass rods placed on a baking stone and heated until they all stick together (usually at around 700 degrees). Then, with a metal tube, they’re pulled and rolled until they form a cylinder. Several firings follow, ensuring the end result is able to be manipulated into place by hand with pliers and scissors.
