Kim Pan-ki Comb Pattern Celadon Serving Bowl

US$255

Since 1983, Kim Pan-ki has been a full-time ceramicist, using the time to research, experiment and put into practice a variety of complex techniques. With this plate, we see the simple yet effective results of the comb-pattern method, one that’s been celebrated in Korean culture for over 12,000 years. Note how it comes to life through delicate etchings on the clay’s surface, wonderfully enhancing the sleek form and drawing a notable juxtaposition with the celadon inner.

Meet the Maker:

Kim Pan-ki

With each creation, Kim Pan-ki experiments with different techniques – from buncheong to celadon – while utilising the comb-pattern style, a method indigenous to Korea during the Neolithic period where handcrafted clay is fired in open or semi-open pits.
