Carving each plate from a unique piece of pear wood, Antonis Cardew has a way with wood. Working from his small Paris atelier, the designer serves an authentic take on tableware built to last. The exposed grain and soft edges in this large plate evidence the maker’s hand-tooling – and reveal superb craftsmanship.

Born into a family of French craftsmen, Antonis Cardew works exclusively in wood - “the only material,” he says, “that is renewable and can be used both for furniture and architecture.” He works in small batches at his Paris atelier, tailoring his techniques to the woods – ash, beech or oak. Softness reveals itself through the hand-tooling and refined design.
