Meet the Maker:

Poterie de Cliousclat

Poterie de Cliousclat was founded by Marius Anjaleras in 1903 when he gathered all the potters of the village – around 100, who were all working at home – in one atelier. He proposed the creation of a more modern building in which to create functional dairy pots. Cliousclat is known for its clay quality, which is extracted from a quarry a few hundred metres away – when villagers work in their garden, they often find shards of pottery in the ground. At its heart is the oven that dates back to 1903, which is 20m² with the capacity to fire up to 2,000 pieces at once. Poterie de Cliousclat’s signature five-colour palette of green, honey, straw, red and black offers an inspirational framework to those creating today's pottery.
