Russian-born French designer Sonia Delaunay was a multidisciplinary artist who co-founded a colourful Cubist movement known as Orphism with husband Robert Delaunay. Sonia’s work spanned painting, fabric design, fashion and theatre sets, all bearing her signatures of rhythmic and colour harmony. As an extension of her abstract ethos, her jewellery creations stand out from the crowd, and her influence on the arts was acknowledged with a 1964 retrospective at the Louvre – the first living woman to receive this honour. This 1979 pendant necklace has a sterling silver construction elevated by vibrant sections of lacquered enamel.
