Many of Lora Avedian’s creations begin with a drawing, and in the case of the Ode to Echinacea cushion, it all started with the echinacea flowers in Lora’s garden that she’s watched grow from seed to strength over the past year. To bring this to life, she details the linen base with machine-couched antique trims – used to create the flower heads – and free-hand machine-embroidered leaves. It’s a wonderfully nostalgic piece that’s perfect for harnessing the qualities associated with the plant: health and healing.

Meet the Maker:
Lora Avedian
Lora Avedian shares a love for embroidery with her mother, who picked up on her enthusiasm from a young age and taught her the basics. Since, Lora has continued to explore the subject, studying it at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels – graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2017. Today, we see the London-based artist use traditional embroidery and embellishment techniques to make her intricate soft furnishings for the home, taking inspiration from both ethnographic research and nature.
