While much modern art was banned in former Czechoslovakia during the mid-century, this was not the case for glass; instead, designers could work freely, which led to a boom in creativity that built on the region’s centuries-old learnings. This set is produced by Ingrid Glass, headed by Curt Schlevogt and his father-in-law, Heinrich Hoffmann. They devised a technique to make glass look like semi-precious stones – in this case, alexandrite, which is closely associated with this period and region, and favoured for its ability to shapeshift from blue to purple depending on the light. Please note, this item is a truly original vintage piece with slight imperfections and distinctive characteristics that add to its charm and celebrate its unique history.
