By Walid’s folio of antique fabrics is filled with one-of-a-kind finds: French linens and sun-washed chintzes feature, as does a selection of ecclesiastical embroidery. With them, he creates wearable art that draws you into the history and story behind each one. This robe is pieced together from embroidered Chinese silk kimonos uncovered from the 1920s. Each textile is cleaned, backed, restitched and fixed entirely by hand, with fine details that invite closer inspection, such as the stitches and intricately laid motifs.
