Tracing Takeda Kahei Shoten’s lineage will lead you to Shokuro Takeda, who is said to be one of the eight people who first settled in the shibori hub of Arimatsu in 1608. The Patrimoines collection is guided by this rich heritage, created in collaboration with Sawako Furukawa who chose three designs to honour the Takeda Family Residence. The Pied de Phénix kimono is inspired by the phoenix painted on the ceiling, with footstep-like markings achieved with tsukidashi kanoko – a form of the shibori technique where small dots are individually knotted with a thread.

Takeda Kahei
The rich heritage of Arimatsu is woven into every fibre of Takeda Kahei Shoten’s fabric, not only because the town is considered the home of shibori tie-dye but also because of the cultural influence its architecture and landscapes hold. A particular point of heritage is the Takeda Family Residence, home to a series of motifs that inspire the Patrimoines collection, which is realised in collaboration with Japan-born, Milan-based designer Sawako Furukawa.
